Chemical & Process Plants

Most chemical work is not a new plant. It is a new line, a new reactor or a debottleneck — inside a plant that is already running.

Modifications have to fit around existing equipment, structures and racks, often working from drawings that no longer match the site, with tie-ins that can only be made in a short shutdown. We plan the new work against the plant as it stands, so what is fabricated fits first time and the shutdown is spent installing, not adjusting.

What shapes the design

Engineering for Chemical & Process Plants

  1. 01

Starting from what is actually there

Plant drawings are often several changes behind the plant itself. We build the new design on the latest information available — your drawings, site mark-ups and dimensions from your team — and raise the gaps before they turn into field problems.

  2. 02

    New work in congested space

New equipment rarely gets a clear area. Routes through existing racks and structures, around live lines and over operating platforms are checked in the 3D model, so clashes with the existing plant are found on screen rather than at site.

  3. 03

    Tie-ins that respect the shutdown

Connections to live systems are identified and shown clearly on the drawings, and as much as possible is prefabricated beforehand — so the work left for the shutdown window is the work that genuinely has to be done in it.

  4. 04

    A specification for every line

Neighbouring lines can differ in material, rating and lining. Specification-driven modelling keeps each line in its own class, so isometrics and MTO call up the right material — and drawings are brought to as-built once the job is done.
